Welcome to our iconic Arabic program at Hibr Institute, the first of its kind on the East Coast!

Within our academic program, Classical Arabic refers primarily to the language of the Qur’an and, secondarily, to the texts and works that are directly inspired by its form and content. Students receive direct exposure to Islamic legal, theological, and philosophical texts from the classical period of Islam.

Our course begins with a foundation in “linguistic mobility,” meaning equipping students with the necessary skills in grammar and morphology (nahw, sarf) and enabling them to excel in reading, understanding, analyzing, translating, and interpreting classical texts, including hadith. This is in addition to basic skill development of listening, reading, speaking, and writing, necessary for advanced-intermediate fluency.

By the end of our study track, a student achieves a unique milestone in their Arabic development and transitions from learning the language to using it to access classical texts. Our classes consist of rotating special-studies modules covering both classical and contemporary subject matter. Our Arabic study and courses at Hibr Institute will also include Qur’anic Exegesis or Tafsir, Poetry (Islamic and classical), Traditional Psychology, Literary Criticism, Islamic History, Theology, Prophetic History, Speech Presentation (Khutba), and Terminology of Sacred Law and Hadith. For those who come to Hibr Institute with absolutely no knowledge of the Arabic language, they go away with a staggering wealth of knowledge and centuries of tradition and heritage.

This class has a 100% success rate for those who commit to it. Our curriculum challenges and exceeds Arabic language courses taught at major Ivy League universities across the United States. In as little as three months, even our non-Arab students with zero Arabic background can confidently speak and converse in Arabic. Hibr Institute’s pedagogy and methodology are designed to make the Arabic language easy and accessible to anyone, regardless of age or background.
