What Our Students Have To Say
“Hibr Institute has opened my eyes to the beauty of Islam.”
About Hibr Institute
Hibr Institute is an Islamic college in the heart of Princeton, New Jersey, one mile away from Princeton University. It was founded in 2021 with a mission to ground students in the Islamic scholarly tradition while engaging in critical ideas shaping modern society. Hibr Institute’s core focus lies in preserving the Arabic language and the rich Islamic intellectual tradition and sciences.
Hibr in classical Arabic means “scholar, sage, saint, and ink,” all of which are held in high regard in our tradition. The title “Hibr ul Ummah,” or Scholar of the Ummah, was given to the illustrious companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Abdullah Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them). He was a shining scholar in the early days of Islam and led the way with love and light. Today, Hibr is inspired and aspires to follow in his noble legacy in spreading the Light of knowledge and Love of God.
Hibr Institute is dedicated to providing college and graduate-level courses that are flexible for students & professionals with full-time careers. The courses taught at Hibr Institute include Advanced Arabic Language, both Fusha and colloquial, and Arabic Grammar, Tafsir (Qur’anic Exegesis), Traditional Psychology, Hadith, Fiqh, Aqeedah, Seerah, special courses on contemporary Islamic topics, and other critical subjects such as mental health and Muslim leadership. Hibr also provides general Islamic education for the community, Qur’an memorization programs, and Arabic language courses for all ages and levels.
At Hibr, regardless of age or experience, we welcome the most brilliant minds and enlightened hearts who are passionate and diligent in their pursuit of sacred knowledge. Whether in person or from the comforts of their homes via our flexible online platform, our students are connected to a thriving, supportive community of exemplary students and scholars dedicated to fostering their moral, intellectual, and spiritual growth and success in both worlds.
Along with mentoring and educating the next generation of Islamic scholars, thinkers, and influencers, our vision at Hibr Institute is not only to be the first and most inspiring Muslim college on the East Coast, but also the most inviting, as we work within the Muslim and non-Muslim communities to shine the Divine Light. No matter how near or distant the path to paradise may feel, every tree begins as a seedling. With sincere care & nourishment, every seedling sprouts to yield wondrous fruit. At Hibr Institute, we intend to harvest the Light within us. May God help us spread His divine Light & Love so we may leave behind a legacy the Messenger of Allah is proud of on the Day of Resurrection.
“When God wishes good for anyone, He instructs (teaches) him in the religion. I am only a distributor; God bestows.”
—Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon him (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
Inheritance of the Prophets وَرَثَةُ الأَنبِيَاء
Abu Darda narrated: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. They do not leave behind gold or silver coins, but rather, they leave behind knowledge. Whoever has taken hold of it has been given an abundant share.”
— Sunan Abi Dawud
